Palimpsest of Life   Debbie Walter

Experience 'Palimpsest of Life,' a thought-provoking art exhibition that reimagines memento mori for contemporary times. This PhD journey connects a personal reflection on death to the global warning of the Anthropocene. Concepts of mortality are explored through both portraiture and suggested cross-section landscapes. These mixed media works delve into the layers of existence and aim to prompt thought. They encourage reflection on life's fleeting nature and our collective legacy. They capture the grief and attempted processing of losing a loved one, to the broader implications of humanity's impact on the planet and the trace we leave behind. This body of work evolves historical, cultural, and artistic motifs into new memento mori symbols.
