Cathy Hilder’s work expresses a new found love of floral art. Few things are as beautiful as flowers, so it’s no wonder that they’ve attracted the attention of artists from ancient times to the present. Beyond sheer beauty, flowers provide rich opportunities to play with colour and form.

"Over the past few years I have been inspired by the beauty of flowers and lured into further exploration into the language and meaning of flower"

Cathy Hilder, 2021

The story of flowers is based in the science of botany, geography and most expressively in each and every bloom through the spiritual and earthly language of love and romance and of joy and sorrow.   It is this ‘folklore language of flowers’ that has called to me to explore through my art practice how booms affect our senses in an explosion of colour and form on the canvas and in their delicate representation in other mediums
